Science

In Years 7, 8 and 9, Science is studied in a balanced format comprising Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Scientific Enquiry.   The latter allows students to apply their Scientific Skills and Knowledge to aspects of life they may not have encountered before and thereby communicate conclusively, through the use of tables and graphs, the evidence they are presented with.



In Years 10 and 11, students are taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics by subject specialists, leading to the award of two separate GCSE’s.  Students also continue to apply their Key Stage 3 Scientific Enquiry skills in an area of the curriculum entitled “How Science Works”. This provides students with the opportunity to take a look at the many applications of science in modern society and links with history, encouraging students to make predictions based on observations and prior knowledge.
