Headteacher's Foreword

Welcome to Dartmouth Community College and thank you for showing an interest in our college. Moving into secondary school is an exciting time for young people and making the right choice of school is important. I hope that the information in this prospectus is useful and I encourage you to come and visit us at the College to help with your decision. We welcome parents and students to the school at any time for a full tour while the college is at work. Dartmouth Community College is a small school. This means that we can really get to know all of our students and their families well. The college caters for the needs of all its members and celebrates their achievements, whether they are academic, sporting, artistic or cultural. The College is a place where young people thrive and grow. We have high expectations of them in terms of their achievement, attendance, behaviour and dress. We have a positive ethos and expect that students show respect for themselves, their peers, college staff and visitors and the environment around them. Staff at Dartmouth Community College are 100% committed to providing the best possible education for their students. We believe in working together with parents to ensure that EVERY CHILD achieves the best they possibly can. We are a caring and supportive college. Each child is a member of a tutor group which includes children from all year groups. This provides our younger students with positive role models and expects our older students to act as mentors to them. We have a House system which supports the feeling of belonging to a community and the houses regularly compete against each other in a variety of competitions. Children transferring to the College will receive a comprehensive programme of support and induction which includes a residential where they can get to know their new friends early on in their first term at the college.
