Drama
     
Drama at the College is one of the subjects that make up our Specialist Status in Visual Arts. We have high expectations of the students in Drama and set high standards. In KS3 students explore Drama and Theatre in a disciplined way through Making, Performing and Responding to both their own work and that of their peers.
At KS4, OCR provides us with the GCSE course, which involves three main practical tasks that we approach through a series of workshops. There is a written element to the course where portfolio evidence is produced showing the Dramatic process undertaken. We are also able to offer AS/A2 level Performing Arts at the College.
Our main hall provides the teaching space and is a fully equipped Theatre space that is also offered to other local schools as a performance venue.
We offer students the chance to participate in both large and small-scale productions throughout the year and seek to make frequent Theatre visits with them in order to widen their experience of live performance.

Drama Department aims:

• To foster active enjoyment, understanding and participation in Drama by students of all abilities.
• To introduce students to a range of performance techniques and encourage focused creative expression.
• To create a safe, creative and serious approach to group work.
• To introduce students to the medium of Drama through a practical performance training which has academic rigour.
• To introduce students to the history and context of theatre as an art form.
• To introduce students to technical aspects of theatre including lighting, sound and staging
• To foster positive and critical evaluation of students’ work through regular self-assessed, peer-assessed and teacher-assessed projects.
• To begin students’ performance and academic progression towards GCSE Drama studies.
